Addiction-Free Pain Management - APM Module 4: A Guide for Managing Pain Medication in Recovery
By Dr. Stephen F. Grinstead and Sheila Thares, RN, MS, APNP
Having presented the Addiction-Free Pain Management (APM) System in trainings to more than 6,000 people throughout the United States, Dr. Grinstead received many requests from clinicians for simple tools to help chronic pain clients identify and manage their pain in a safe, recovery-prone manner. Three modules have been developed that have proven useful and effective.
In Module Four, clients will have an opportunity to explore how pain medication can be used with a recovery-oriented approach. First, the client will look at some misunderstood terms, and then list the benefits and disadvantages of using pain medication. Next, they will write their own pain history story and be shown how to develop their own effective pain medication management plan.
